چکیده

Abstract We review the use of young low mass stars and protostars, or stellar objects (YSOs), as tracers star formation. Observations molecular clouds at visible, infrared, radio X-ray wavelengths can identify characterize YSOs populating these clouds, with ability to detect deeply embedded all evolutionary stages. Surveys Spitzer, Herschel, XMM-Newton Chandra space telescopes have measured spatial distribution within a number nearby (<2.5 kpc) showing surface densities varying by more than three orders magnitude. These surveys been used measure spatially formation rates efficiencies when combined maps gas, led discovery star-forming relations clouds. YSO also structures, ages, histories clusters, they illuminate relationship clusters networks filaments, hubs ridges in from which form. Measurements proper motions radial velocities trace evolving kinematics phases through gas dispersal, providing insights into factors that shape bound clusters. On 100 pc scales encompass entire complexes, Gaia is mapping associations dispersed their natal exist alongside reveal complex structures associations, show evidence for supernova driven expansions. Remnants now identified Gaia, traces persist few hundred million years.

AGB Stars as Tracers of Star Formation Histories: Implications for GAIA Photometry and Spectroscopy

We argue that tracing star formation histories with GAIA using main sequence turn-off (MSTO) point dating will mainly be effective in cases of very mild interstellar extinction (EB−V < 0.5). For higher reddenings the MSTO approach will be severely limited both in terms of traceable ages (t < 0.5 Gyr at 8 kpc; EB−V = 1.0) and/or distances (d = 2 kpc if t ≤ 15 Gyr; EB−V = 1.0), since the MSTO wil...

Herbig-Haro Objects - Tracers of the Formation of Low-mass Stars and Sub-stellar Objects

Herbig-Haro objects (HHOs) are caused by outflows from young objects. Since the outflow relies on mass accretion from a circumstellar disk, it indicates ongoing growth. Recent results of infrared observations yielded evidence for disks around brown dwarfs. This suggests that at least a certain fraction of brown dwarfs forms like stars. Thus, young sub-stellar objects might cause HHOs as well. W...

Radio and Far-infrared Emission as Tracers of Star Formation and Agn in Nearby Cluster Galaxies

We have studied the radio and far-infrared (FIR) emission from 114 galaxies in the 7 nearest clusters (< 100 Mpc) with prominent X-ray emission to investigate the impact of the cluster environment on the star formation and AGN activity in the member galaxies. The X-ray selection criterion is adopted to focus on the most massive and dynamically relaxed clusters. A large majority of cluster galax...

Induced Formation of Primordial Low-Mass Stars

We show that the explosion of the first pair-unstable supernovae can trigger lowmass star formation via gravitational fragmentation of the supernova-driven gas shell. The necessary conditions for such instability are: (i) the mean density of the ambient medium is 14 cm < n0 < 790 cm ; (ii) the explosion energy ESN > 3 × 10 52 erg (i.e. core-collapse supernovae are not suitable triggers). The ty...

Star Formation Efficiencies and Star Cluster Formation

Starbursts produce large numbers of Young Star Clusters (YSCs). Multi-color photometry in combination with a dedicated SED analysis tool allows to derive ages, metallicities, EB−V, and masses including 1σ uncertainties for individual clusters and, hence, mass functions for YSC systems. The mass function, known to be Gaussian for old Globular Cluster (GC) systems, is still controversial for YSC ...
